China lands rover on Mars in first profitable spacecraft mission

The entry capsule safely touched down in a flat airplane on Mars’ floor at 7:18 a.m. Beijing time (7:18 p.m. Friday Japanese time), although it took about an hour for floor controllers to find out that the mission had been successful, state media reported. In the course of the perilous journey by Mars’ environment, the craft needed to function autonomously, and alerts couldn’t be transmitted again to floor management till the robotic rover had landed and unfolded its photo voltaic panels and antenna.
