Ecological catastrophe looms as ship with harmful items aboard sinks off Sri Lankan coast

Billions of tiny plastic pellets, or “nurdles,” that the ship was carrying floated into the ocean after the fireplace began and commenced to blanket Sri Lanka’s yellow-sand seashores, reaching so far as 75 miles to the south. Useless fish, birds and sea turtles started to clean up on shore. Scientists have warned that ocean currents might ultimately carry the pellets to seashores on the opposite aspect of the island nation, killing extra wildlife and damaging delicate ecosystems.
