Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer orders Enbridge Line 5 pipeline shut down; Canada objects

Line 5, inbuilt 1953, is a part of Enbridge’s mainland system, which carries gas from Alberta’s oil sands to the Midwestern United States and Japanese Canada. Working from Superior, Wis., to Sarnia, Ontario, it’s a key conduit for refineries in these areas, which make fuel, propane and home-heating oils, in addition to jet fuels for airports in Toronto and Detroit.
